Sing a Song

A little before 700 A.D. a peasant called Caedmon from Northumbria (northern-England) had certain monks recite to him passages of scripture out of Latin. These, Caedmon would compose into Anglo-Saxon songs-being one of the first to bring the scriptures to the common-English people. The pre-English commoners fell in love with the stories and a desire for scripture was inspired. Caedmon spent his days and nights in prose and song to his Lord…

“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: (Ephesians 5:19-20) KJV

It’s really hard to be depressed and sing. King David knew this. Either King Saul was after him or his son. In bleak and sun-bleached wildernesses he often made many a trek and slept the night away in some drafty cave. David’s heart would stir and he would sing a praise to God, and then another, and after awhile his fear was not so bad and the cave not so cold.

Have you tried singing to the Lord? In today’s maddening pace-of-a-world I know it sounds out of place but maybe that’s because it is… it make’s your heart take a step or two closer to God as you praise Him, look to Him and like blessed Caedmon sing your day away… to Him.
"Father, sometimes we simply don't know what to say and so we sing your praise!"
